A joint simulation exercise of Croatia Control Ltd. (CCL) and the Croatian Air Force and Air Defense, „NEBO 17“, was held on March 24, 2017 in the CCL simulator. It was the first exercise of that type, the goal of which was to practice the coordination procedures in military flight operations with the aim to protect the sovereignty of the Croatian airspace.
The exercise scenario simulated realistic and possible situations in the airspace, such as failure of communication with a civilian aircraft, intrusion of a foreign aircraft into national airspace, military aircraft failure.
The coordination between CCL and Croatian Air Force and Air Defense, based on clearly defined procedures, was exercised in the operations of neutralization of threat and related possible damages to the Croatian citizens and other airspace users in simulated situations.
CCL granted the representatives of the Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Croatian Defense Academy, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure and Croatian Civil Aviation Agency the opportunity to attend the exercise as observers.
After the exercise, the Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defense, Brigadier General Miroslav Kovač and CCL Director General Dragan Bilać expressed their satisfaction with the results achieved as well as with the level of skills of civilian and military teams in resolving the simulated scenarios.
