At the beginning of September 2015, Croatia Control Ltd (CCL) completed the installation of the solar panels on the roof of its parking lot, thus commissioning a 345 kW photovoltaic (PV) power plant which will supply one-third of daily electric energy consumption of the facilities at its headquarters in Velika Gorica in the summer months.
Besides an enhancement of the electric power system, as well as positive effects of energy conservation and rational consumption, CCL also aims to raise social responsibility through the use of renewable energy sources. CCL is one of the first air navigation service providers in Europe to use the renewable energy source generating this much electric power for its business operations.
Peak load of the HQ facilities varies from 500 kW in winter to 800 kW in summer because of more electrical load in the summer months due to the stringent air-conditioning regime applied to technical and operational facilities. Therefore, this 345 kW solar power plant will be most useful during the summer months, when insolation is high.
By the implementation of this project, CCL has made a direct impact on energy development and trends in the country contributing to the electricity generation from renewable sources which represent a huge natural resource and enable the production of electric energy with a lower emission of fuel and gases.
